Every Little Thing About This Week’s Specialty Show Lineup Pops

By Alan Haber Pure Pop Radio

Thanks for hanging in there with us this past week. I’ve been working my way through some medical issues that necessitated my attention being diverted elsewhere; while that may again be the case going forward, I pledge to devote as much effort as I possibly can to doing what I’ve dedicated my energies to for the past 21 years: serving the melodic pop community with in-depth reviews and commentary, and playing the greatest new and new-to-you melodically charged music on Pure Pop Radio.

So where are we this first full week of February? We’re popping with another top-flight lineup of specialty shows, a mix that sees musician Brian Bringelson return with an all-new edition of Needle Meets Vinyl.

But first, Ken Michaels turns his Beatley sights to a special look at John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr at the movies. In other words, it’s an hourlong Every Little Thing collective spin of group and solo songs played from the soundtracks to some of your favorite Fab films. You’ll hear the Beatles sing “A Hard Day’s Night,” “Ticket to Ride,” and “It’s All Too Much,” and listen to Ringo’s “Blindman,” Paul’s “Spies Like Us,” and George’s theme from “Shanghai Surprise,” on which he is supported vocally by Vicki Brown. Plus a whole lot more, tonight at 8 pm ET.

Stay tuned at 9 pm tonight for the latest sun-drenched hour of good time tunes on Jammin’ James Riley’s Catching a Wave. Jammin’ James regales you with tunes from Danny Amis and Los Acapulco, The Rip Chords, The Blue Stingrays, The Wet-Tones, and The Pyramids, among other classic groups.

This Wednesday afternoon at 1 pm ET, Pop 4 and Tiny Volcano’s Scott McPherson delights with a survey of some of the musical highlights of 2016, including tracks from such artists as The Lemon Twigs, Vanilla, Seth Swirsky, Foxtails Brigade, The Nines, Rosie Abbott, Cliff Hillis, and The Monkees. The Weird and the Wonderful is back on the air to provide the melodic soundtrack to your lunchtime soup-and-sandwich combo.

Brian Bringelson returns this Wednesday at 8 pm ET with the first new Needle Meets Vinyl of 2017, a typically diverse collection of numbers played straight from vinyl platters. On this week’s playlist: songs from Bob Dylan, Peter and Gordon, The Bangles, Ryan Adams, Neko Case, The Rolling Stones and, you may have heard of them, The Beatles.

This week’s lineup of specialty shows on Pure Pop Radio winds up in grand style with the latest get-together around the Fab roundtable of our esteemed panel of Beatles experts: Ken Michaels, Steve Marinucci, Al Sussman and Allan Kozinn. This all-new edition of Things We Said Today (TWST) brings author Kit O’Toole, fast becoming the fifth TWSTer, back into the mix for a spirited discussion of Beatles turning points. Which events can you point to during the group’s lifetime that you could say showed the foursome moving in a new direction? Our Fab soothsayers have the answers.

We’re continuing to add more new and new-to-you music to the Pure Pop Radio playlist every week. Look for a report on these adds soon. Meanwhile, enjoy this week’s lineup of specialty shows, and keep listening to Pure Pop Radio, your home for the greatest melodic pop music from the ’60s to today!
